The Telangana government has allocated Rs 5,560 crore for the second phase of the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Project and the revitalisation of Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs to meet Hyderabad's increasing water needs.

The project, using the hybrid annuity mode (HAM), will be financed with 40% from the state and 60% from the implementing agency. Hyderabad currently receives 580-600 MGD of water, with demand projected to rise by 170 MGD by 2030 and 1,014 MGD by 2050. Phase two will use 30 TMC of Godavari water to address this future demand.

Phase one supplies 10 TMC from the Ellampalli project, while phase two will add 15 TMC from the Mallanna Sagar reservoir—10 TMC for drinking water and 5 TMC for reservoir rejuvenation and Musi River cleaning. The project is set for completion in two years, funded by a Hudco loan with government budget support for repayment.

The project will include a pump house, a 3,600-mm pipeline from Mallannasagar to Ghanpur, and a 780 MLD water treatment plant at Ghanpur.

Extra pipelines will link Ghanpur to the Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs.Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs.
